My 2020 in Books

Reading has always been one of my favorite hobbies since I my second grade teacher got me hooked on books. Since about eighth grade my pace of reading has slowed down as I’ve got more busy in life. In college, I occasionally read when home on breaks. My love for reading never waned, just my time. In 2020 I’ve probably read more this year than any other year since my love for reading began. The 31 books below are what I read in 2020. I am not going to put a spotlight some of my favorites.

I began 2020 with finishing the Wheel of Time series. I can really say anything about this series other than I loved it. The 14 book journey was amazing. I got invested in the hardships and journey of the Edmonds Field five. It was a bittersweet moment when I finished A Memory of Light. An idea that helped me with bittersweet feeling was the idea that the actual Wheel of Time in the book would keep turning and the story that was told was only one part of the Wheel. The Wheel turns forever and the story will be told again. The Amazon TV show is also on the horizon and I am impatient for it. My plan is to read the prequel book right before the series airs.

I also read every book the Mistborn series in 2020. I don’t think I have read all of the short stories though. I started getting into Brandon Sanderson with Warbreaker after enjoying how he wrapped up the Wheel of Time. I really like his idea of building interconnected worlds yet not needing to read any of his other works too enjoy and understand them. The Cosmere has really sucked me in. The Stormlight Archives is what I am starting my 2021 with.

Peace Talks and Battle Ground were a welcome end to a drought of Dresden Files books. These books had huge impacts on the series and I look forward to seeing where it goes. I think there are only four or five books left until the finale trilogy of the series.

the Red Rising series is a series that has quickly become one of my favorites. I read Red Rising, Golden Son, and Morning Star, which comprise the first trilogy. The first book feels very Hunger Games-y but after that, the series is a political violent space drama. I would have never though a science fiction series would be one of my favorite series I’ve read. I look forward to reading books four and five in 2021.

The last book I want to highlight is the Rage of Dragons. I picked up this book after seeing an interview with the author on YouTube. I am glad I did. The book is fast-paced. It kept sweeping me along through the entire book and I enjoyed every moment of it. The inspiration from African cultures also another thing I enjoyed about the book. The second book of the series (the Burning series) was released in November and is on my list to read in 2021.

2020 was a prolific year reading-wise for me and I look to keep it up this year. My goal is to read a book every two weeks, equaling to about 24 in 2021.
