A perfect Sunday morning. T-shirt, jeans, and sneakers were all I need to go on a short excursion in the neighborhood. Birds chirping, grass shiny as oil paint. Clouds and sunshine gently overlook the lake and the land. On my way back, I picked up some food: green olives, salmon, crackers, and grapefruit juice. With hot black coffee, these will make a satisfying light brunch. Green olives have recently become my favorite food of inspiration. Because the color is calming. Because this is what Patti Smith always orders together with her black coffee in some unassuming Café in East Village early mornings when she wants to write. I take this as an auspicious imitation.

Then I had a two-and-half phone call with my twin-sister-from-a-different monther. I would never have imagined to be able to have such a deep connection with another female — someone who is just like me. It is the labor day long weekend in China, and she finally had a break from the busy work at the logistics tech start-up in Shenzhen. A restless spirit, she spent the entire afternoon researching different tote bag designs and shared with me the cool ones on Google drive. Our tote for basic business is moving very slowly these days, as we both are fully engaged in our new job. And there is the uncertainty of the pandemic. We talked briefly about Alex, her former manager at Durst, and his recent launch of Carbon Calories. Cool videos and concepts. I wonder when we will be able to pull up something concrete like that. She assuared me that we will get it somehow, somewhere in the not-too-far future. I am sold by her optimism, although I know there are a lot to be carved out and worked on. We then went on to talk about our re-evaluations about ourselves and where we want to go next. I told her about my thoughts last night on building up the ‘anti-gravity’ strength within the heart to rebel against the adult drudgeries. Defend my edges, passion, and heart. She agrees. Although it seems a harder fight in Asia than in the West. Especially in HK. Proud on its western fusion, HK to me is still a city built on a monolithic value system, a system in which competition and rewards and reinforcements preside. A narrow definition of being successful. Money talks. Power craved for. Nevertheless, she prevailed. Many hard-landings, yet she only grows stronger. My favorite girl. I wonder when she and Tony will finally meet (the lock-down in HK got extended to June). Since we two are always in sync, her meeting Tony will be about the time I meet my love. 4 more weeks!

She told me she spent a semster year in the Old Westbury area in Long Island. I wonder what it felt like, being on her own and working as an RA on the island. I met her somewhere in late 2016 at an unconspicuous dinner party. Little would I know that I’d meet one of the most important person in my life. I was fighting an innate identity battle back then. Knew little about what I wanted to do and was confused by relationships. I marvel at how much our friendship has evolved and we both have endured and grown. Serentipity. My high school Chinese literature teacher once said a great friendship cannot be sought but only found. When you find the right one, one outnumbers all the others. I think he is right.

I checked the newly released horoscope trend this morning. It looks like I will be ready to embark on a new journey, or make big breakthroughs after May 12. Next Tuesday. Sounds exciting and I am thrilled. For Virgo, his new career route will be clearer post May 12, with many opportunities to meet new people and get recognitions for the work he’s been doing. He’ll find his way post May 23 and go full-speed with the new role with confidence. Great news. I need to tell the guy next time he calls!

To summarize my current state: arrow on string, ready to shoot!
