Review of Speak to Inspire course with London Real

I have been watching vegan activist James Aspey online for a few months now and was impressed that he could give an inspiring talk to a crowd and also hold a confident conversation with members of the general public. I thought, I’m a vegan, I wish I could do that and feel confident to speak to people about my beliefs. That seemed like a huge challenge in my mind! My family background was a ‘Don’t stick your head above the parapet’ and ‘Be seen but not heard’ So I’ve been shy of speaking up through my life, happy to chat with family, friends and customers, but on the one and only occasion where I did give a small talk, I felt sick and unprepared.

It was while watching an excellent interview that James Aspey gave with London Real that I took notice of Brian Rose, who was doing the interviewing. He looked smart, suave and super confident. A couple more clicks on the keyboard and I was looking at more interviews that he had done with other very interesting people. On the London Real website there was an advert for this course, and the promise that, using all the tips that he had learned from interviewing so many awesome people, he could get someone ready for a public speech. He suggested a Ted Talk! I couldn’t believe it!

Sometimes you reach a point in your life where you know there is just one thing holding you back. For me it was a fear of public speaking. I also had the wish to give cookery classes, but this fear had stopped me taking action. I knew I had to sign up.

The course was nothing like I expected. Right from the first uploaded video into the private fb group, the support and constructive comments started, helping each other with our presentations. The first was just 60 seconds long and that was the first time I had ever filmed myself talking, let alone uploaded it so others could see. I was very much out of my comfort zone. We had two group calls a week where Brian went over the course content and answered any questions. We also had team leaders who were always there for positive feedback. The online work books were very well thought out and easy to use. What was very effective was an accountability document that we all filled in each step of the way. In that way we could see which team member might need some help and encouragement.

I have now finished the six week course and in my mind it was money well spent. I feel confident enough to achieve my goals and get my words out there, verbally and printed.

The bonus to the whole six weeks was the fabulous people who were there alongside me. They know more about me than some of my family. I’m looking forward to keeping in touch as we work towards our goals. It has been an amazing six weeks.

Thank you Brian and team x
